Larrabee receives emergency siren grant

WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded $39,915,036 in direct loans, grants and loan guarantees to Iowa through the Community Facility Direct Loan and Guaranteed Loan Programs.

The Community Facility Direct Grant, Loan and Guaranteed Loan Programs assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas with less than 20,000 residents.

The Office of Rural Development will distribute the money as shown below.

*Guttenberg will receive an $8,455,000 direct loan and an $8,455,000 loan guarantee to help renovate and expand the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Clayton County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.

*Larrabee will receive a $5,036 grant to help purchase and install a new emergency siren early warning system and other related emergency equipment. Cherokee County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for community assistance.

*William Penn University in Oskaloosa will receive an $11,500,000 direct loan and an $11,500,000 loan guarantee for the long term financing of the Penn Activity Center and Musco Technology Center. Mahaska County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual's ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
