MMC girls go 1-2 in Spalding VB tourney

GRANVILLE - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team charted a 1-2 match record at Saturday's Granville Spalding Tournament here, defeating Aurelia 21-11, 21-6; falling 16-21, 13-21 to host Spalding; and losing 21-17, 10-21, 13-15 to Boyden-Hull.

In the win over Aurelia, Kayla Foresman led the Eagles in hitting with a 9-10 effort and three kills, followed by Ashley Schneider 8-9 and six kills, Jalyn Dodeden 8-10 and two kills, and Taylor Hohbach 6-7 and one kill.

Ashley Wber led MMC in serving with a 9-9 match and two aces, while Doeden was 5-7 with three aces, Megan Deichmann 4-4, and Erica Dreckman 3-4 with three aces.

Deichman and jackie Holmes paced MMC in assists with eight and seven, respectively. Weber and Dreckman led in digs with seven each, and Foresman totaled six.

Against Spalding, Dreckman led MMC in hitting with 12-14 and two kills, followed by Doeden 8-12 and three kills, Foresman 7-8 and two kills, and Schneider 6-8 and two kills. Weber and Dreckman led in digs with five each, and Doeden tallied four. Holmes led in assists with five, and Deichmann had three.

Deichmann paced her team in serving with an 8-8 effort and three aces, while Doeden was 5-5 with two aces, Holmes 5-5, and Foresman 4-5 with an ace.

In the narrow setback to Boyden-Hull, Foresman led in hitting with a 19-22 effort and four kills, followed by Doeden 16-22 and three kills, and Dreckman 12-13 and four kills. Dreckman also led in digs with 13, Deichmann had seven, and Weber and Doeden five apiece. Holmes had nine assists to lead that category.

Weber led MMC in serving in the match with a 12-13 effort and two aces, while Dreckman was 10-10 and two aces, Deichmann 6-6, Holmes 6-6 with an ace, and Doeden 5-7 with an ace.

MMC plays at South O'Brien Tuesday in more War Eagle Conference action.
