SAC CITY - Buffalo Ridge played tough to the end but could not overcome East Sac County on the way to a close 17-13 defeat in Class 2A District football action here Friday night.
ESC quarterback Collin Schrader completed 8-14 passes for 76 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception to lead his team to the win. Schrader also rushed 16 times for 162 yards to lead the winners' ground game.
Schrader hooked up with Derek Huser and Jamkie Weitzel for TD passes, and Marcus Stoltenberg kicked a 38-yard field goal and two PATs to account for the East Sac County scoring.
Buffalo Ridge scored its two TDs on pass4es from quarterback Seth Johnson, who completed 13-28 passes for 184 yards and two TDs in the game. Johnson also rushed 16 times for 27 yards.
Kyle Newell caught both TD passes for the Bison, with two catches for a total 61 yards and two TDs. Johnson kicked one of two PAT opportunities. Tyson Thoreson rushed five times for 23 yards for the Bison as they only tallied 43 rushing yards on 23 carries against the tough East Sac County defense. Blake Woodke caight seven passes for 85 yards, and Kris Alesch two for 19 yards for Buffalo Ridge.
Thoreson led the Bison defense with 10 tackles, followed by Christian Bondinello with nine, Colby Stephens nine, Daren Miller eight, Spencer Snyder eight, Micvhael Davidson eight, Greg Davis seven, and Kyle Dahm six.
Stephens also had a fumble recovery.
Buffalo Ridge (2-4 over all and 0-3 in District) plays at Okoboji in District action Friday night.
