MOVILLE - Woodbury Central scred two touchdowns in the second quarter, and two more in the fourth to seal up a convincing 26-0 Class 1A District football win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here last week.
Wildcat quarterback Grady Gallagher completed 10-19 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns to lead Woodbury Central, and also scored a TD on a one-yard run.
MMC rushed the ball 36 times for a minus 58 yards against the stiff Wildcat defense. The Eagles completed 14-25 passes for 113 yards and two interceptions, with Jesse Kunzweiler 5-8 for 11 yards, Tanner Utesch 4-7 for 53 yards, Chris Mayrose 4-8 for 35 yards, and Neal Bunt 1-2 for 14 yards. Bunt caught five passes for 24 yards, Russ Godbersen three for 23, and Ethan Radtke three for 15.
Mathew Rogers led Woodbury Central's rushing game with 17 carries for 81 yards, and Jared McCoy carried the ball 10 time for 54 yards, as the winners rushed 29 times for a total 138 yards in the game.
Godbersen led MMC on defense with 13 tackles, followed by Nathan Zubrod and Andrew Hoefling seven apiece, Radtke six, John Hoefling five, and Ben Hueser, Lee Hueser, and Tyler Prunty four each.
Rogers, Dylan Bechen, and Aric Traver paced the Wildcat defense with nine tackles each, while James Wright was in on eight.
Youthful MMC (0-5), with six freshmen in the starting lineup, hosts ranked Le Mars Gehlen (4-1) tonight for Homecoming 2009.
