The talented Galva-Holstein volleyball team, battling injuries all season, won two of three Western Valley Conference matches last week, falling 3-1 at Lawton-Bronson, and defeating Boyer Valley 3-0, and Charter Oak-Ute 3-0 in Dunlap.

Against L-B, the Lady Pirates lost by game scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 26-24 in four extremely competitive games. At Boyer Valley, the Pirates prevailed 25-17, 25-12, 25-17.

In the L-B match, G-H totaled 103-125 hitting with 49 kills, and served 91-98 with three aces. The team tallied 56 digs, and 47 assists, along with nine blocks.

Victoria Andresen led G-H in kills with 13, and Kaitlyn Wulf added 10. Brea Slaybaugh led in assists with 21, and Jaimie Christensen tallied 14. Ashley Buell led in digs with 18, and Andresen had 14. Heidi Rollefson totaled three blocks, and Nicole Boyle two.

"We struggled at times. We did not play hard every point," said G-H coach Scott Mitchell. "L-B is a tall and athletic team who gained more confidence as the match went on. They played well the shole night and made plays when they had to. We had a couple freshmen step up and play well in the third and fourth game and competed very well."

Against Boyer Valley, the Pirates were 61-74 hitting with 32 kills, and served 66-71 with 16 aces. G-H totaled 22 digs and 31 team assists.

Brooke Wiese led the Pirates in kills with 10, and Rollefson added nine. Slaybaugh was assist leader with 22, and Christensen had seven. Buell again led in digs with 13, and Andresen had six. Andresen tallied six ace serves, and Buell had three.

"We served well tonight and we didn't always pass the ball all that well," noted Mitchell. "Boyer Valley had some aggressive servers who we had problems with. We need to work on not giving up runs of points."

In the win over CO-U, G-H totaled 58-68 hitting with 25 kills, and served 67-71 with seven aces. The team had 18 digs and 23 assists, along with 13 blocks.

Wiese led the Pirates in kills with 12, and Rollefson tacked on five. Slaybaugh tallied 18 assists, and Christensen four. Buell had seven digs, and Andresen four. Rollefson led in blocks with five, and Boyle added three.

"Even though we didn't have many aces, our serving forced them to give us quite a few free balls," explained Mitchell. "We did a good job passing and were able to get into our offense."

G-H sports a 16-8 match record, and stands 4-1 in the WVC. The Pirates JV (8-0) and freshman (10-0) teams are undefeated. G-H hosts Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto Tuesday, and Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove Thursday.
