CORRECTIONVILLE - The Alta Cyclones kept the ball on the ground almost the entire game to ring up 257 rushing yards on 51 carries on the way to a 20-6 Class A District win over River Valley here Friday night.
Robbie Sauter led the Cyclones rushing attack with 21 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown, while Ben Stevens carried the ball 22 times for 106 yards and one TD, and Morgan Van Houten lugged it three times for 23 yards and a TD to account for all the Alta scoring. Alta QB Ryan Friedrich was 0-3 passing.
River Valley scored its lone TD on a run to paydirt by Cody Paris, who managed 50 yards on 14 hauls in the game. Also for RV, Austin Hansen carried the ball seven times for a minus seven yards, and Andrew Volkert lugged it three times for 11 yards, and Blaine Cullen five times for 14 yards.
Wolverine Hansen was 7-13 passing for 62 yards, and Volkert was 1-3 for 18 yards. RV rushed 29 times in the game for just 68 yards against the tough Cyclone defense.
Paris led the River Valley defense with 13 tackles, followed by Billy Pansegrau with eight, Sam Lundt and Dylan Fluke with seven each, Skylar Shever and Cody Porter with six apiece, and Volkert with five.
Schuyler Radke led Alta's defense with 12 tackles, and Sauter tallied seven.
River Valley (1-5) plays at Le Mars Gehlen (5-1) Friday night in Le Mars.
