The Eagles, with six freshmen in the starting lineup, scored its lone TD on a run by Tanner Utesch, who carried the ball seven times for 36 yards and that TD to lead the MMC rushing attack, which totaled just a scant 45 yards on 26 carries throughout the game.
Eagle quarterbacks combined to complete 7-14 passes for just 22 yards. Jesse Kunzweiler was 4-9 for a negative four yards, Neal Bunt was 2-2 for 15 yards, and John Hoefling was 1-1 for 11 yards. Etan Radtke caught three passes for 21 yards, and Bunt two for minus four, and Hoefling one for five yards.
Russ Godbersen carried the ball five times for 29 yards, Blake Erdman hauled it three times for 17 yards, and Kunzweiler, harried all night by the tough Gehlen defense, lugged it eight times for a negative 35 yards.
Gehlen rushed the ball 38 times for a whopping 345 yards and four TDs, with Trevor Bouma amssing 196 yards on 20 carries for two TDs, and Jordan Sitzmann rushing five times for 68 yards and two YDs. Cody Campbell caughty four passes for 69 yards and two TDs. Jays QB Taylor Wurth was 5-8 passing for 80 yards and a TD, and Zach Wurth was 1-1 passing for 14 yards and a TD.
Bunt paced the active MMC defense with 24 tackles, followed by Utesch 19, Godbersen 13, Nathan Zubrod 12, Hoefling 12, Radtke and Andrew Hoefling eight apiece.
Utesch had an interception for the Eagles, and Godbersen and John Hoefling had fumble recoveries.
