GHSC varsity XC girls take 2nd at SC/RCL Invite

LAKE CITY - The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland girls cross country team continued to excel at the Southern Cal/ Rockwell City-Lytton Invitational meet run here on Tuesday, with the Lady Pirates' varsity girls taking second in the team competition and the JV girls finishing first among JV teams. The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland boys' varsity team finished 8th in the team standings.

The GHSC girls' varsity was led by Jesse Mathes, whose time of 16:18.47 earned her first place among the 87 competitors. Ashley Drey finished 7th, with a time of 17:04.87; Katie Boyle was 11th, with a time of 17:20.29; Rachel Hunt finished 30th, in 18:12.85 and Tami Bertrand was 31st, with a time of 18:14.68.Sarah Forristal also ran for GHSC, and Sarah Rice was injured and did not compete.

The Pirate runners were led by Christian Egger, whose time of 19:23.94 was good for 21st place among 102 boys' varsity runners. Josh Schwanz finished 41st, with a time of 20:06.77; Trevor Irwin 52nd, in 20:28.28; Jordan Bremer was 58th, in 20:50.92; Riley Cosgrove was 65th, running a time of 20:57.30; and Josh Mohr finished 67th, with a time of 20:58.53.

Running for GHSC's JV girls, who posted a team score of 24, were Meg Kofmehl, the individual JV champ with her time of 18:53.74; Annie McAreavy. whose time of 20:10.10 netted her second place individually; Shelby Burnett (4th), 20:24.04; Kate Mathes (6), 21:25.19; and Taylor Henry (13), 22:32.00. Hailey Clark and Shelby Linton also ran for GHSC in the field of 25 JV girls. A field of 98 runners ran in the Boys' JV competition, including GHSC's Austin Bevers, who finished 51st among individuals with a time of 22:39; Jon Klotz (24:10.69, for 71st); Ben Jerke (24:25.50 for 73rd); and Marc Meyer, whose time of 29:56.88 placed him 97th.

The GHSC Middle School girls also ran, and the Lady Pirates' Tonya Redenius finished 10th individually, with a time of 17:12.75 ; Jayden Mohr 11th, in 17:22.60; Courtney Carstens 21st in 18:58.14; Emily Forristal 27th, in 20:00.93; and Lexie Johnson was 31st, with a time of 20:25.62.

In team standings, the Girls' Varsity was won by Prairie Valley, with 63 team points, followed by GHSC with 70; sioux Central was 3rd, scoring 73 team points; Perry was 4th with 100; and Southern Cal/RCL finished 5th, with 139 points.

The Boys' Varsity meet team standings: 1. Glenwood (29 points) ; 2nd - Carroll Kuemper (35); 3. Woodward Academy (139); 4. Perry (152); 5. Jefferson-Scranton (159).
