MMC girls battle back for VB win

PAULLINA - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn voleyball team showed some true grit here Tuesday night, losing the first two games, and then storming back on the road to win the last three games on the way to an exciting 3-2 War Eagle Conference victory over South O'Brien.

The Eagles won by game scores of 16-25, 26-28, 25-22, 25-12, 15-9.

"The girls fought back hard to get the win," said MMC coach Carla Weber. "I'm very proud of them."

Kayla Foresman led the active MMC hitters with a 36-45 effort and 12 kills, followed by Erica Dreckman 27-32 and 10 kills, Jena Mittlestadt 25-31 and five kills, Ashley Schneider 24-29 and five kills, Jalyn Doeden 14-19 and three kills, and Steph Specht 11-13 and two kills.

Megan Deichmann led MMC in serving with a 22-23 night and one ace, followed by Jackie Holmes 19-29 and one ace, Mittlestadt 13-14 and an ace, Dreckman 11-17 and six aces, and Foresman 9-14 and an ace.

Deichmann also led the Eagles in assists with 19, and Holmes had 17. Dreckam registered 28 digs, while Foresman had 19, Mittlestadt 10, and Holmes nine. Schneider tallied 11 blocks, and Foresman eight.

Krissa Hetletvedt led South O'Brien's hitting with a 21-28 effort and six kills, followed by Kylee Kunkel 16-21 and five kills, Karlee Kunkel 14-19 and seven kills, and Casie Rehder 10-16 and eight kills. Amber Hain led SOS in assists with 22, and Hetletvedt led in digs with 11, and Chloe Ebel had nine, along with Taylor Jalas, and Tracy Tewes.

Miranda Kelleher led the Wolverines in serving with a 30-30 night, followed by Tewes 15-17 and an ace, Hain 13-13 and an ace, and Hetletvedt 11-13 and an ace.
