Wednesday, October 14, 2009

For 39 years now Stan Sitzmann, center, has been heading up a fund-raising drive to purchase clothing for needy children in Cherokee County. Each year he coordinates volunteers to sell raffle tickets for a drawing held at the annual Needy Children Auction at the Brightside Lounge in Cherokee on Dec. 19. This year represents the 39th year of the annual Needy Children Fundraiser in Cherokee County.

Tom and Mary Keller from Cherokee will be taking care of the Cherokee area, and Bruce and Danae Dreckman of Marcus, will be handle the Marcus area.

The purpose of this fundraiser starts with the Head Start children and then the pre-Head Start to outfit them with a full line of clothing. Recipients also include any names the Needy Children group receives from the area churches and public.

For other needy children they will be selling tickets for a drawing held at the Auction on Dec. 19 at the Brightside Lounge in downtown Cherokee. Each ticket is $1, however if you buy $5 worth you receive a lottery ticket free and could win big money.

The Needy Children Group has been pleased with the response of the community regarding the fundraiser and hopes you will help again.

There will also be a free bean and chili soup lunch served from 11 a.m. to noon on the day of the auction at the Brightside. If you would like to donate something for the auction, it can be left at the Brightside after 2 p.m. each day.

Items donated should be new or near new condition. First prize for the drawing is $300 worth of groceries, and second prize will be $100 in cash, and third prize will be $50. For more information contact Stan Sitzmann at 225-5593
