LeMARS - The River Valley Wolverines thought they might be in for a rough night when they took on the Gehlen Catholic Jays here in Class A District 1 football action Friday night, as the teams entered the game with exact opposite won-lost records - Gehlen was 5-1 and River Valley 1-5. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, this was one of those cases where their worst fears were realized. The Jays put up 30 points in the first quarter, led 44-0 at the half, and tacked on another score in the third quarter to make it 51-0 heading into the final quarter. Samuel Lundt scored on a 5-yard run to get RV on the board in the 4th quarter, and when Andrew Volkert completed a pass to Austin Hansen, it made the final score 51-8 in favor of Gehlen.
Lundt led RV rushers with 17 yards on 12 carries, while Cody Paris caught 7 passes for 81 yards to top the Wolverine receivers. Austin Hansen completed 10 of his 21 pass attempts for 115 yards.
Paris also led the way on defense, making nine tackles, while Tanner Cobb had six, Dylan Fluke five, and Blaine Cullen four.
River Vallley's season mark now stands at 1 -6 entering this week's game with Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
