Monday, October 19, 2009

AURELIA - The Aurelia Bulldog volleyball didn't exactly have an ideal assignment for the last game of their regular season, as they took on Northwest Conference opponent Schaller-Crestland, ranked #3 in the State Class 1A rankings here on Thursday.

The outcome of the match was a 3-0 SC victory, with game scores of

9-25; 5-25; 4-25. Despite the outcome, though, Bulldog coach Ann Dornack said, "It truly was fun to watch tonight! All of the seniors started tonight (it was Senior Night), and seriously played loud and proud. (It was) one of the best nights to watch the girls play."

Aurelia 11 total kills for the night, with Kristun Tabler leading the Bulldogs with four kills, followed by Erin Laursen with three. Assists were led by Heather Ballantyne with four and Stacie Glienke and Erin Laursen with three apiece. Ashley Anderson played strong and had nine digs to lead the team in that category. The Bulldogs did not have any ace serves, "but with no errors, I will take it.," said Dornack. Heather Ballantyne led the team with 4 assisted blocks and one solo; and Erin Laursen added 2 assisted blocks and two solo blocks, while Kristun Tabler had 2 assists.

The Bulldogs will play River Valley in Correctionville tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. in the opening round of Regional Tournament play.
