HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates faced a tough opponent here Thursday night on Senior Night, and Coach Scott Mitchell's team came through with flying colors, defeating Western Valley Conference foe Odebolt-Arrthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove 3 games to 1, by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15.
With the exception of a third game serving let down, where G-H missed five serves, Coach Mitchell said his team performed very well in the areas of blocking, passing and setting all night - "a good win over a very good team," said the veteran Lady Pirate coach.
Victoria Andresen, Brooke Wiese and Heidi Rollefson each had nine kills for the match to lead the Lady Pirates' offensive effort at the net, while Brea Slaybaugh had 22 assists and Jamie Christensen dished up 17. Shannon Rohlk had three ace serves.
On defense, Brooke Wiese had 15 digs and Ashley Buell added 13, while Heidi Rollefson had nine blocks, Nicole Boyle seven and Courtnie Voss three.
The Freshman teams tied and the G-H JV team lost, 2 games to 1. Galva-Holstein's freshman team finishes the season with a 20-1-1 mark and the JV with a 15-2 record.
The Galva-Holstein varsity moved their season record to 16-9 overall and 5-2 in the Western Valley Conference.
