The Cherokee Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registrations for their Youth Basketball program. Coach Bob Lee, head varsity coach for the Braves and Coach Heath Hagberg, assistant varsity coach for the Cherokee girls team will be leading the program. Coach Lee and Coach Hagberg will be teaching fundamentals of the game every Saturday from November 21st to December 19th. The girls will play at the Middle School and the boys will play at the High School. 3rd-4th graders will play from 9:00am-10:30am and the 5th and 6th graders will play from 10:30am-12:00pm. Parents are needed to help on these five Saturday mornings. The cost of the program is $15 registration fee plus a $15 jersey deposit. Please have this to Parks and Recreation no later than October 30th.
Parks and Recreation staff will be at the Cherokee Parent/Teacher conferences on Monday October 26 and Thursday October 29, to sign up players. Deposits will be returned to when jerseys are turned in at the end of the season. Also, a fun thing that is being brought back this year is the chance for kids to play at half time of a Braves' varsity game. They will get to experience what it's like to play in front of a big crowd! This will be at a home game in January or February. Details later.
Every child that wants to continue playing on a traveling team on four Saturday mornings in January will be placed on a team by the Parks and Recreation department, Coach Lee and Coach Hagberg. Parents are needed to coach these teams, which will play in towns in the surrounding area.
