Pirates open 1A Regional competition
HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein volleyball team started Class 1A tournament trail out on the right foot here Wednesday night, sweeping Storm Lake St. Mary's 3-0 by game scores of 25-15, 25-11, 25-10.
As a team, the Pirates were 54-63 hitting with 28 kills, and 61-70 serving with 14 aces. Team digs totaled 16, assists 26, and blocks 10.

KIll leaders for coach Scott Mitchell's crew were Brooke Wiese nine, Victoria Andresen eight, and Heidi Rollefson six. Andresen also was serve leader with four aces.
Brea Slaybaugh led her team in assists with 16, and Jaimie Christensen tallied seven. Ashey Buell led in digs with five, and Rollefson led in blocks with four.
"We served aggressively tonight, but had a few too many serving errors," said coach Mitchell. "Our blocking continues to improve and we had a good night hitting.

"We travel to Laurens Tuesday to play a very good West Bend-Mallard team in the second round of the Regional."
The Lady Pirates take a sparkling 19-12 match record into that contest.
