Lela M. Rose
Lela M. Rose, 79, of Cleghorn, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, following an extended illness. Services were held today at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Msgr. Kenneth Seifried and Rev. Gene Sitzmann officiated. Burial was in the Maryhill Visitation Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Visitation was held Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Lela was born Aug. 23, 1930 in rural Cleghorn to Wilfred "Bill" and Louise (Kirchoff) Bush. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1948. On Feb. 4, 1950 she married Perry Wilmer Rose at Maryhill.He preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1997. Lela and Perry farmed for many years in near Cleghorn.Lela was happiest with her old hat atop her tractor in the field and later her riding lawnmower.Lela was employed by the State of Iowa for many years at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute and the Cherokee and Marcus, Iowa Liquor Stores.She was a farm wife in every sense.She always had a huge garden, and would can everything she could get her hands on. She loved her family, her church, and the farm. Lela was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, (Wilmer) and brothers- in law Emil Mendt and Dan Rose.
Surviving are her eight children; Linda Scott and her husband, Mike of Aurelia; Mike Rose, of rural Larrabee; Pat Rose and his wife, Mona of Owatonna, Minn.; Bill Rose, of rural Cleghorn; Joe Rose and his wife, Roxy of Redwood Falls, Minn.; Matt Rose of rural Cleghorn; Nick Rose and his wife Mary of rural Cleghorn; Mary Long and her husband, Don of Ozark, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Holly Scott and her special friend, Kirk Hamilton; Tyler Scott and his special friend, Stephanie Mongan; Sarah Boyle and her husband, Rusty; Erin Swift and her husband, Dan; Beau Rose and his wife, Michelle; Judd Rose; John Rose; Emily Rose; Joseph Rose and his fianc»e Casey Mortenson; Brandon Rose; Healther Nelson and her husband Drew; Cody Rose and his special friend, Kelsey Guetter, and Jesse Rose; and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Mendt Anderson and her husband Walter of rural Cleghorn; a sister-in-law, Judy Rose of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
