K-P beats MMC in football finale

KINGSLEY - Todd Bottorf carried the ball 26 times for 140 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Ryan Mercer rushed for a TD to lead Kingsley-Pierson to a 15-7 season-ending District football win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here Friday night.

Russ Godbersen scored the lone TD for the Eagles and rushed for 81 yards on 16 carries in the game. QB Jesse Kunzweiler carried the ball eight times for a negative 43 yards, and Blake Erdman rushed three times for minus 19 yards for MMC against a fired-up Panther defense.

All told, MMC rushed 31 times for a net of 29 yards. Kunzweiler completed 6-17 passes for 76 yards, and Zach Specht was 3-4 for 33 yards, as MMC totaled 10-24 passes for 121 yards in the game. Andrew Hoefling caught three passes for 29 yards, Neal Bunt two for 15 yards, and Brady Dalton one for 48 yards to lead Eagle receivers.

K-P rushed 43 times for 198 yards in the game, and Mercer was 1-7 passing for three yards.

Godbersen also led MMC on defense, figuring in on 13 tackles, while Bunt and John Hoefling were in on seven each, and Ethan Radtke, Matthew Tabke, and Nathan Zubrod five apiece.

Tyler Sudbeck led the Panther defense with 12 tackles, Ross McNaughton totaled 10, and Bottorf andTyler Campbell had nine each.

K-P ends its 2009 season with a 2-7 record, and the young MMC club finishes 0-9.
