Shirley A. Wersinger, 79, of Cherokee, formerly of Ponca, Neb., passed away Monday evening, October 26, 2009 in the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.
Graveside services will be at the Ponca Cemetery on Nov. 8. There will be visitation at the Salem Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. and then burial at 2 p.m. with Pastor Neil Anthony officiating. Arrangements are by the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca and the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee handled the local arrangements.
Shirley was born on Nov. 7, 1929 at Newcastle, Neb. to Oscar and Anna (Birkley) Gunderson. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1948. She was married to Leonard Wersinger in August of 1961. She had worked as a Nurse's Aid at the Lutheran Hospital and several Cherokee Nursing Homes. She loved to crochet and work on jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Colt Wersinger, brothers Randall & Roy Gunderson, sisters Amy Lamprecht & Dettee Kaspar Durand.
She is survived by three sons: Keith and Sue Wersinger of Bondurant; Paul Wersinger of Ft. Dodge; David Wersinger of Cherokee; two daughters: Denise and Roy Williams of Newton; Lisa Wersinger of Cherokee; three grandchildren: Roy Williams, Joseph and Blaisze Wersinger; two step grandchildren: Chelsey and Sue; three sisters: Norma Whitman of Tulsa, Okla.; Bertha Mae Kaspar of Denver, Colo.; Opal Olson of Lincoln, Neb.
