3-0 loss to North Kossuth ends Lady Pirates' season

LAURENS - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates volleyball squad took on a strong North Sentral Kossuth team in Regional Volleyball semi-final play on Friday night and Lady Pirate Coach Scott Mitchell said his team "completed about 85% of our game plan."

Unfortunately, continued the veteran coach, "against a good team like them, we needed to be a little closer to 100%." G-H lost 3-0 to end the 2009 season.

In what must have been an exciting match to watch, Mitchell said that "both teams served aggressively, but they had a little more offensive fire power while they were out of system. We gave up some big runs in games two and three, which really hurt us."

The game scores for the match were 20-25, 20-25, 22-25, all in favor of North Sentral.

Leading contributors to the G-H effort included Heidi Rollefson, who led the team in blocks and also shared the team lead in kills with Brooke Wiese, with five apiece; Brea Slaybaugh led the team in assists with 11 and Jaime Christensen chipped in with five assists of her own; Ashley Buell, with 15, and Victoria Andresen, with six, led the Lady Pirates in digs; and Christensen, Wiese and Andresen each had two ace serves.

The Lady Pirates conclude their season with an excellent 20-13 mark, and have a promising future, as the JV team posted a record of 15-2 and the Freshman were 20-1-1.
