CLEGHORN- The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School Drama Department will present Pat Cook's hilarious comedy "Don't Try to Wake Him, Hand Me the Shovel" this Saturday.
Join Helen Highwater (yes, that is her real name) and Carlisle Livermore, two intrepid news reporters, as they investigate the rumors of a ghost at Billingsgate Mansion. Is the ghost real? Is the ghost there? Is the ghost really there? Unfortunately, Highwater and Livermore run into more than their fair share of obstacles, such as Thelma and Louise, two escaped convicts; Lige, the mysterious and creepy handyman; Pookee and Swoon, the paranormal investigators hired by the local station to validate the investigation; Opal and Agnes, two ambition-free assistants; two film makers trying to make a film without anyone knowing; a couple of ditzy cheerleaders and their coach; the grouchy owners of Billingsgate Mansion; and a cop with butter fingers!
As the reporters begin their investigation, the convicts are trying to hide a body - a dead body. The assistants are trying to escape doing more work than they really have to and create more confusion than they know! Enter the moviemakers, who are trying not to get caught while catching the footage they need. They also try to create a spookier atmosphere - not realizing that is totally unnecessary. Billingsgate Mansion is spooky enough!
The paranormal investigators, who are not much help at all, arrive on the scene. So, too, do the current owners of the mansion - two grouchy old sisters trying to dispel the rumors of a ghost - without much luck. With lights flickering and thunder crashing, two cheerleaders and their coach enter the mayhem. Or are they what they seem to be? Finally - enter a well-meaning police officer with a lisp and butterfingers. This creates an evening of fine entertainment and fun to be had by all!
The play will have only one performance, this Saturday November 7, at 7:30 PM at the Cleghorn Middle School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Activity passes will be honored. The audience is invited to attend a "Meet the Cast" reception after the play that evening. A free-will donation for the drama department would be greatly appreciated at that time.
