Aurelia High School to present musical

AURELIA - The Aurelia High School Drama Department will present its 2009 Fall Musical, "The Royal Bachelor", Friday, November 13, and Sunday November 15. The Friday night show will be a dinner theater, with serving to begin at 6:15 p.m. in the new gym, followed by the play at 7 p.m. Reservations must be made by November 6 for the dinner, as seating is limited. Dinner/show tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for ages 5-11, and $10 for ages four and under. Proceeds from the dinner go to help fund the Aurelia Thespian Troupe. Sunday's performance starts at 2 p.m. Tickets for the play only may be purchased at the door.

Play synopsis: When poor King Evian falls out the window, the royal scepter ends up in the hands of Yokel, crowning this foolish hillbilly the next king. Everyone agrees Yokel needs a wife to help him run the kingdom, so five eligible young ladies are brought in to vie for the new king's hand. You will love being involved as the five ladies--Agatha Peabody, a high-society matron; Priscilla Tradewells-Ayers-Hollander-Morley, a four-time-married gold digger; Sally Valley, a ditzy cheerleader; Crushin' Kanisha, a New York City gangster-type; and Jane Claxton, a true-hearted cowgirl from Texas--are tested on their abilities in true American Idol fashion (no talent necessary!), followed by a Survivor style challenge. Wouldn't you know, Yokel's more focused on surviving his first days as royalty, especially with the bitter Prince Daft, who was supposed to be next in line for the throne, making one harebrained--and funny!--assassination attempt after another. Between that and a thieving personal advisor who is draining the royal treasury, one of these women better be pretty special to gain Yokel's attention! Sparkling with Bill Francoeur's music, even Simon would shout "Yes!" to this hilarious musical as Yokel finds his true love and saves his kingdom from ruin.
