Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate and burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery at rural Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Jean was born on Jan. 19, 1921 in Afton Township in Cherokee County to Forrest and Katherine (Doupe) Ware. She attended Afton Township Country School and then graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1939. She was married to Lowell "Pete" Peterson on July 19, 1942 at San Bernardino, Calif. She was a homemaker and farm wife. Jean enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and loved spending time with her family. She had been a resident of Cherokee County all her life and had been in Careage Hills since February
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Nov. 19, 1995, a son Scott L. Peterson in 1991, three sisters and their husbands: Ruth and Kled Swanson, Roberta and David Kintigh, Marjorie and Clair Ducommun.
She is survived by one son and one daughter: Tracy Peterson and his wife Kathy of Cherokee; Jill Peterson Erickson and her husband Austin Hegwood of Star Prairie, Wis.; four grandchildren: Matthew Peterson of Cherokee; Jennifer Hart and her husband Mike of Cherokee; Jason Erickson and friend Jessa Brace of Harlan; Jana Erickson of St. Paul, Minn.; six great-grandchildren: Katy, Sydney, Ben, and Lydia Hart; Lane and Josie Peterson; also many nieces and nephews.
