Diane Swisher, 63, of Huron, S.D. died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at Huron Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Huron, S.D. with Rev. Leonard Kayser and Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating.
Diane Woods was born Oct. 24, 1946 at Great Falls, Mont. to Sam and Dorothy (Schuster) Woods. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1964. She earned a bachelor's degree from Northern State University in elementary education. She taught in elementary schools in Watertown, Eureka and Vermillion and for 31 years in Huron Public Schools, most of those years as a kindergarten teacher at Washington elementary. She was married to Steven Swisher in 1966. She enjoyed collecting antiques, teaching and family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Woods, her nephew Michael Woods, her nieces Michelle Woods and Megan Squire, her sister-in-law Mary Lou Woods, her father-in-law Clark Swisher and her brother-in-law Joel Swisher.
She is survived by her husband Steve, her father Sam Woods of Aberdeen, S.D.; two daughters: Sharee (Alan) Boyle of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Kristi (Vyto) Gorinas of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six grandchildren; four siblings: Douglas (Val) Woods of Cherokee; Darrel of Onalaska, Wis.; Debbie (Kip) Squire of Omaha, Neb.; David (Mary Jo) Woods of Aberdeen, S.D.; her mother-in-law Doris Swisher of Aberdeen, S.D.; brothers-in-law Clark (Marty) Swisher Jr. of Columbia, Mo.; Dan (Joan) Swisher of Mandan, N.D.
