The Cherokee American Legion Treptow Post 230 and Auxiliary met for their monthly meeting on Nov. 19 at the Legion and Auxiliary halls in the Kountry Klass Mall.
A lot of planning is being done for the start of bingo in January. Sharon Kay Wilson came and spoke to their groups about how to get started. They were also treated to a Tastefully Simply demonstration by Katie Sauer. It was a lot of fun and enjoyed by the Veterans as well as the Auxiliary.
Youth Committee represntative Andrea McIrvin is planning something for Operation Military Kids on Dec. 12., and The Legion is also inviting their Jr.'s to the party. The Legion was fortunate and got a grant from the State Operation Military Kids this summer when they hosted a yellow ribbon ceremony for the children, and will have money left to use for Christmas.
Veteran Committee representative LuAnn Wittrock is planning something at the nursing home for Christmas., an event that the Legion is looking forward to doing with their Veterans.
Kountry Klass Mall held an open house in which the American Legion and Auxiliary both took part . The Post and Auxiliary served cider and bars and cookies as well as holding a drawing for a free flag. The winner had a choice of either a Iowa State Flag or an American Flag., and winner Claudia Comstock chose the American Flag.
It was decided by the Treptow Unit and Post that they would also get care packages ready for our local servicemen who are serving away from home, and they hope to send these off shortly. Theresa Walker and Bob Wittrock are in charge of this project.
The Auxiliary Unit is hosting the Cherokee County American Legion meeting on Dec. 7, and will also be having a Bingo Committee meeting following the County Meeting.
The next regular Auxiliary and Legion Meeting will be held on Jan. 21.
