Earl Jacobson , 85, of Larrabee, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota..

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30th, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Tom Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be military rites at the graveside by L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Monday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Earl was born September 25, 1924 in O'Brien, Iowa to Elmer and Christine (Nielsen) Jacobson. He attended Cherokee County and Larrabee Schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 34th Infantry Division of the U. S. Army in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was married to June Johnson on March 14, 1963 at Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away on July 31, 1992. He was married to Nancy Johnson on October 15, 1983 at Larrabee, Iowa. Nancy passed away on April 11, 1992. Earl had lived in the Larrabee area most of his life and in Arizona for 3 years. He did home construction, built grain elevators, working as a foreman for Younglove Construction, and also Lambert & Hamlin Elevator Construction Co. retiring in 1991. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and playing cards. He was a life time member of the Larrabee American Legion, L. A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. in Cherokee, the D.A.V. and was a recipient of the Purple Heart

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, wife June and wife Nancy, two brothers Dale and Norman Jacobson, a sister Mildred Miller, a granddaughter Stephanie Morey and a great granddaughter Caralyn Morey.

He is survived by three step-children: Johnnie Johnson of St. Joseph, Missouri; Michael Johnson and his wife Tara of Spencer, Iowa; Barbara Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; a step-daughter-in-law Maureen McGuire of St. Joseph, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother Harold "Ish" Jacobson of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister Violet Meyer of Holstein, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Mike & Bea Houston, John McAlpine and Paulette Kroll.
