IDA GROVE - For the second time in two nights, the River Valley boys basketball team came up a little short, as they dropped a tough 55-50 game to Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove here Tuesday night.
RV was held scoreless for a four minute period in the second quarter, and that - along with 27 turnovers and poor free throwing shooting - contributed to the Wolverines'defeat.
Despite those factors, RV still held a one point lead with two minutes left in the game, but they were unable to close it out.
RV Coach Dean Norris's post-game comment: "Effort continues to be a strong suit (for his team), as we are playing really hard and aggressive, but we need to eliminate careless turnovers and make free throws."
River Vallet was led by senior Austin Hansen, who followed up his big night on Monday with a 21 point, eight rebound, five steal performance on Tuesday, while Sam Lundt added six assists and held OA-BCIG's top scorer well below his scoring average. Andrew Volkert scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds against a much bigger post player, and Zak Gander had eight points and Ryan Kettelson nine, including two 3 point baskets.
River Valley's record now stands at 0-2. The Wolverines' next game is a doubleheader against West Monona at Correctionville on Monday.
