The newly formed Ridge View Raptors boys basketball team split two games last week, defeating East Sac County at Schaller 58-52 in overtime, and falling to ranked Lawton-Bronson 66-36 in Holstein.
Isaiah Miller led the Raptors to the win over East Sac County with a superb 29-point and 14-rebound performance for an impressive double-double. Miller's heroic three-point basket at the end of regulation tied the game at 50-50 heading into overtime.
Seth Johnson added 17 points and eight boards for the Raptors, and Christian Bondinello tallied four points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Will Riley tallied 18 points for the Indians, while Jake Kent added 14, and Collin Schrader 13.
Ridge View trailed throughout the game until outscoring the Indians 20-12 in the fourth quarter, and 8-2 in the OT period to get the victory. ESC led 16-13, 25-21, and 38-30 at the quarter breaks until that fateful fourth frame.
"What a game," exclaimed Ridge View first-year coach Shannon Tesch. "This one we will remember for a long time. I was extremely proud of our team for battling back in the fourth quarter. Isaiah's tying three-pointer at the end of regulation was about as clutch as you can get. He played a great game."
Against Lawton-Bronson, the Eagles outscored the Raptors 42-19 in the second half to blow away the Ridge View club. L-B led 11-4 after the first quarter, 24-17 at halftime, and 46-23 after three periods, going on a 22-6 scoring tear in the third frame.
Kris Alesch led Ridge View with 13 points, and Johnson added 12. Austin Lefler led L-B with 24 points, and Corrie Schroeder tossed in 16.
"We were able to stay close in the first half," said Ridge View coach Tesch. "The third quarter was a bad one for us - we were outscored 22-6. We definitely have some work to do. I was happy with our effort. We still worked very hard.
The Raptors, 2-1 this early season, play at Ar-We-Va Westside Tuesday night, at Sioux Central Friday night, and host Cherokee in Holstein on Saturday night, times to yet be determined.
