Ruby G. Monroe, 91, of Cherokee, made her final journey home on Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 2009 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Cherokee. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Chaplain Don Agostine will officiate. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Ida Grove Rec. Center following the graveside services. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com. Ruby was born Jan. 25, 1918 at Battle Creek, to Raymond and Gertrude (Colshan) Fletcher. She was baptized in 1955 at the Church of God in Ida Grove. She attended country school near Battle Creek and Cushing and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1936.She was married to Ralph Monroe on Nov. 24, 1940 at Ida Grove. She was a waitress at several restaurants in Ida Grove. She and husband Ralph owned and operated the Hillside Inn in Ida Grove with Ralph's brother and sister-in-law. They moved to California for a short time, returning to Cherokee in 1962. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, gardening and at Christmas time she enjoyed baking. Ruby will be remembered for always being the caregiver, whether it was a neighbor, family, her kids or granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph Feb. 13, 1982 and three brothers Clarence, Burdette "Bob" and Cecil Fletcher. She is survived by one son and one daughter:Rickey Monroe and Sue Hill of Cherokee; Robin Thornhill and her husband Mike of Ida Grove; one granddaughter Amanda Monroe-Rubendall and her husband Chris of Cherokee; and the first great-grandchild due in January; two sisters-in-law: Darlene Fletcher of Cherokee; and Alice Fletcher of Holstein; and several nieces, nephews and special care givers.
