Boys fall to good R-A team, 82-30

AURELIA - Aurelia girls coach Aaron Ware said his team "assembled a good rhythm with our offense" in a non-conference game against Ruthven-Ayrshire here on Saturday, and as a result the Bulldogs came away with their first victory of the season, 44-39.

Coach Ware said he felt the two teams were evenly matched with both having several juniors in the lineup. "We were able to defensively control some of what Ruthven was trying to do and reduce the amount of shots their shooters could get, " he said.

Meghan Glawe and Shaina Thevenin led the Bulldog scoring with 17 and 10 points, respectively, and Erin Laursen scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds. Sisters Audrey and Gracie Winterhof added five and four points, respectively, for Aurelia, and Sadie Foley tallied 19 points to pace Ruthven-Ayrshire.

In the boys' game, the young Bulldog squad was overwhelmed by a talented Ruthven-Ayrshire team, 82-30. Freshman Austin Glawe and senior Jacob Howey each scored eight points to lead Bulldog scoring, and Coach Grant Peckenschneider cited Howey's intense effort. He also cited underclassmen Evan Laursen and Kaleb Howey for their "solid" games. Though the two didn't score a lot, the coach felt that they had shown improvement in many areas since the beginning of the season. Senior Steve Berg led Aurelia on the glass with six rebounds. Ryan Sikora, with 23 points, was one of four R-A players to scoe in double figures

The Aurelia teams hosted Laurens-Marathon in a makeup game on Tuesday, then travel to Spalding Catholic on Thursday night and host Storm Lake St. Mary's in a Northwest Conference contest on Friday. They wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of their seasons with a doubleheader at Charter Oak - Ute on Tuesday.
