MAPLETON - The River Valley boys ran into a big physical opponent here Friday, fell behind early, and never recovered as they dropped a 58 -42 Western Valley Conference basketball game to Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto.
Last week's snow cancelled practice all week for the RV boys, and Wolverine Coach Dean Norris feels that may have led to some of the team's problems Friday night, but an even bigger problem was MVAO's size.
"They just pounded us inside, as their two posts scored 39 points and held a huge rebounding advantage," said Coach Norris.
Austin Hansen led the Wolverines in scoring with 13 points, while Ryan Kettelson added 11. Andrew Volkert and Hansen led in rebounding with 8 apiece and Sam Lundt dished out 6 assists.
River Valley's record falls to 1-3 on the year, as the Wolverines head into a busy pre-Christmas vacation week. RV hosted Whiting on Monday, traveled to Lawton-Bronson on Tuesday and hosts Kingsley-Pierson on Friday.
