GRANVILLE - The young Aurelia Bulldog basketball team played a great first half here Thursday night, taking a 23-22 lead to the locker room in their non-conference match-up with the Spalding Catholic boys.
The second half, however, was a different matter, as the Bulldogs "just couldn't get the ball in the bucket the last two quarters," said their coach, Grant Peckenschneider. As a result the Bulldogs came up on the short end of a 50-31 score. Freshman Austin Glawe led the 'Dogs in both scoring, with 12 points, and rebounding, where he tied with Nick Hirschman for the team lead.
Coach Peck said he was "happy with the confident play of our younger guys in the first half, but we seemed a little tired in the second half."
He cautioned that his team was scheduled to play "a very good (Storm Lake) St. Mary's team tomorrow (Friday), and we will have to be ready to go."
The Spalding Catholic girls won the opener, 53-26, over the Bulldog girls, but no other information was available at press time.
