Mat Braves drop double dual

The Cherokee Braves dropped two matches to quality opponents here Thursday night, falling in a double dual 52-21 to Spirit Lake Park, and 48-28 to Le Mars.

Cherokee sacrificed 24 team points each match for failing to fill four weight classes.

Nick Keith, at 215 pounds, and Patrick Loughlin, at 160, each won both of their matches by fall, and Zac Anderson at 145 won both of his his matches by decision, including one by technical fall.

Other pin winners for the Braves were Alex Peck at 140, and Dustin Rosewall at 189.

In JV action, Cherokee's Trevor Devitt won by decision at 215 pounds.

"It was a good night for us," said Cherokee coach Jason Wood. "We had some wrestlers make weights they hadn't made yet this season. Our open weights still make it tough for us to win duals.

"We matched up well with Le Mars, but fell short."

The Braves enter holiday break now and return to the mat Jan. 7 at Spencer in a tough double dual also featuring Estherville-LC.
