2 MMC wrestlers win championships
Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn featured two champions and two third-place finishers, and the Cherokee Braves featured two runners-up and a third-place winner at Saturday's Paul Fuhrman Wrestling Invitational in Cherokee.
Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove won the team competition with 243.5 points, followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan 187, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 124, MMC 112, MOC-Floyd Valley 109, Cherokee 101, Hull Western Christian 99.5, Laurens-Marathon/Sioux Central 85, and East Sac County 77.
MMC's Jacob Meehan won the title at 140 pounds, and his teammate Russ Godbersen won at 152. Meehan beat Jesse Glade of S-O in the finals, and Godbersen beat Collin Ascherl of MOC-FV in the championship bout.

Also for the Eagles, Tyler Nielsen was fourth at 119 pounds, Tyler Pearson was third at 130, Jacob Pearson third at 160, and Dillon Mugge fourth at 215.
For the Braves, Zac Anderson was second at 145 pounds, and Dustin Rosewall second at 189.
Jack Letsche finished third at 135, Rick Weaver fourth at 130, Patrick Loughlin fifth at 160, Manny Bustos fifth at 171, Miah Back fifth at heavyweight, Matt Sparks sixth at 125, Alex Peck sixth at 140, Gabe Conley sixth at 152, and Trever Devitt sixth at 215.

Runner-up Anderson beat Chris Vande Weerd of HWC 8-3, pinned Tyler Reck of S-O in 2:49, beat Patrick Patterson of OA-BCIG 8-6, and lost by fall in 4:18 to undefeated, state-ranked Matt Finch of HMS.
Runner-up Roewall pinned Nathan Zubrod of MMC in :54, beat Sam Van Ginkle of HWC 7-6, and lost by injury default to champion Chaps Wilcke of OA-BCIG.
Letsche placed third after losing by fall in 2:59 to champion Steven Brockshus of S-O, beating Adam Vogel of MOC-FV 4-3, and beating CeDric Smith of ESC 6-2.
"It was a great day for us," said Cherokee coach Jason Wood. "We had two in the finals again and placed sixth as a team with just 11 wrestlers."
