2010 is just around the corner and this is a good time to review an earlier article from the Action Report. This will be a great year to learn something new to help strengthen your business. We recognize how difficult it is to find time in your already busy schedule to do some of these things. This year it would be great to resolve to learn new things and expand your knowledge base to help insure your business grows. Cherokee Area Economic Development is happy to help you with resources to accomplish this task. Please feel free to call and share your ideas and needs with us as we enter this new year or at anytime.
Marketing your business takes a lot of time and effort. Many times you need help and ideas to get things moving. The local newspaper and radio station are a great source for marketing ideas. But you may also look to the internet for help.
Several Iowa based internet marketing sites that offer free information are www.mcclennanmarketing.com and www.myentre.net. The McClellan website offers a newsletter full of advice and monthly information on new marketing trends and ideas. This service is free and may be signed up for on the website. University of Northern Iowa (UNI) offers the myentre.net website. When you go to this site you will sign up to be on their mailing list and to have access to their webinars. They will send you notification regarding their weekly webinars. These webinars cover a variety of issues for small business owners. They do spend a lot of effort on marketing, but also cover finances and management issues. Another free resource is the Jon Schallert website, www.DestinationUniversity.com.
If you Google search under marketing you will find tons of sites that offer marketing information. Many of these sites charge you to become a member. One site that I found while I was on the internet was badmarketingideas.com. Sounds like a funny name for a marketing website but it offers you lots of great ideas for marketing your business. It will give you the bad and the good things you can do. It offers information on conventional and internet marketing.
Other great sources of information are your neighbors in business. Talk to your neighborhood business owners and ask what is working for them. Many times that will work for you, also. Sharing ideas and marketing resources will help to strengthen your business district and help everyone succeed.
When in doubt and you are unsure what steps to take next to promote your business look to these resources and also call us at Cherokee Area Economic Development, we will be happy to talk to you about your business and its specific needs for growth and marketing. We can help with research and development of a plan along with the Small Business Development Center, SCORE and other associations to help make your business the success you envision for 2010 and beyond.
