Former Cherokean seriously injured in accident

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

WORTHING, S.D. (AP)- One person is dead and two others suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in southeast South Dakota.

The highway patrol says 40-year-old Evelyn Washington of Sioux Falls was driving north on I-29 near the Worthing exit early Friday morning when she rear-ended another vehicle. Her car spun and struck a third vehicle.

A Sioux Falls woman riding in Washington's vehicle died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Washington and the driver of the vehicle she rear-ended, 33-year-old Jamie Draper of Sioux Falls, suffered serious injuries. The third driver, 22-year-old Marcus Jacobsen of Sioux Falls, suffered minor injuries.

The patrol says alcohol was a factor in the crash, and Washington and Draper face charges.

Draper is a former Cherokee resident.
