#1 Falcons blitz youthful Cherokee girls

The #1 ranked Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove girls ran away and hid early during a resounding 79-17 victory over the youthful Cherokee girls here on Monday night.

The Falcons stormed to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter and led 44-7 at halftime. A 19-7 scoring advantage in the third frame sent the Falcon starters to the bench early and often in the 62-point rout.

Julie Miller led the Cherokee coring with six points, and Megan Carlson added three points on a a three-pointer shortly before the first half ended.

Jessie Pauley led OA-BCIG with 22 points, followed by Morgan Olerich 17, and Christine Bloyer 15.

Cherokee was just 7-23 shooting from the field for 30 percent against the stout Falcon defense, utilizing full-court pressure into the third quarter that Cherokee had no answer for. The WHS gals were 0-4 from the foul line.

Shanon Shaefer led Cherokee in steals with four, and Miller led in assists with two. Cherokee was plagued by 34 turnovers against the tough Falcon defensive pressure.

Taylor Woods led Cherokee's rebounding with five, and Shaefer grabbed three.

The winless Cherokee girls host rated Storm Lake Friday night and play at South O'Brien in Paullina Saturday night.
