NEWELL - The Aurelia girls knew they were in for a rugged basketball game here on Monday night, facing the fifth - ranked (Class A) Newell-Fonda girls, but the game Bulldog girls did their best and hung in there before bowing before the talented Mustang girls, 105-50.
Junior Meghan Glawe led the Aurelia girls' scoring with 23 points, but it is notable that she was only able to muster three field goals against N-F's defense. Meghan shone in her many trips to the free throw line, however, as she sank 17 of her 20 charity tosses - an impressive 85%. Audrey Winterhof also scored in double figures for Coach Aaron Ware's Bulldog team, totaling 12 points, including one three-pointer, and she also grabbed nine rebounds and stole five passes on defense. Shaina Thevenin stole three passes and Erin Laursen grabbed eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who sank 72% of their 32 team free throw attempts on the night.
Newell-Fonda was led by Susan Kies with 22 points, and teammates Becky Sievert, Cheyenne Anderson and Katelyn Laursen each scored in double figures as well.
