I thought March was the month that would either come in like a lion or in like a lamb. Well January made its mark this year by coming in like a lion! I hope that means we can look forward to it going out like a lamb.
It's been a little quiet at the library with all the snowfall. But this week is supposed to warm up and I know people are ready to get out of the house. So come join us at the library as we continue with our programs.
Saturday, Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. three families came to the Terrific Toddlers Program at the library. The half hour program started with a welcoming/action song to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Then the parents learned some new knee bouncing rhymes, rhymes to help their children learn the parts of the face, a rhyme that ends with a tickle or a hug, and they did a circle activity to the song "Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me." After the closing song the children went into the children's section of the library and enjoyed playing with the legos, playing with puzzles, playing in the playhouse and made new friends while the parents looked at books for their children and enjoyed visiting with each other. The parents were given a copy of each of the rhymes and songs so they can practice them at home. The next Terrific Toddler Program will be Saturday, Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. So all 1-3 year old children bring your parents for more rhymes and songs and take home some books for your parents to read to you.
Youth in Action will meet Thursday, Jan. 21 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Join us for some games, songs, and other winter fun. Did I mention a Time Capsule was found in the library? We will be opening it on Jan. 21. The capsule was filled in the year 2000. So put on your thinking caps and see if you can come up with ideas as to what it might have in it. Don't forget to ride Bus #3 to the library.
The After School Bunch will meet Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. "The Mitten" by Jan Brett will be read and animals from the Sanford Museum will help tell the story. After the story, the Sanford Museum will share information about each animal. If time, a hide and seek game will be played. Don't forget to ride Bus #3 to the library.
Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. is Preschool Story Time. So come join us for some wintry stories, songs, rhymes, and simple crafts.
As part of our outreach program I have been reading to a Day Care group, ECLC, and Headstart every month. Starting next week I will be reading to another Day Care group in the community. If you are a day care provider for 8 to 10 children and would like to have me read to your group call the library at 225-3498 and ask for Peg.
In case the weather chooses not to cooperate be sure to listen to KCHE or call the library at 225-3498 to see if the library is open and if any programs have been cancelled. You can check with the library's FACEBOOK for updates and schedules.
Here's hoping the weatherman is right and we can look forward to some warmer temperatures.
