Action pending insurance review, Alta District approval

AURELIA - The Aurelia School Board approved the football sharing agreement with the Alta School District for the fall of 2010 at the monthly meeting Monday, but finalization of the agreement will require Alta Board approval and a review of insurance coverage before it becomes finalized.

In other business, the Board had further discussion on other activities which may be shared next year, but no decisions were made. Student representatives will meet this Thursday to discuss the issues of mascots and school colors.

In a continued cost-saving measure, the Board voted to reduce the amount of Teacher Quality payments paid out to teachers, but noted that monies which have been received

will be paid out as planned.

Heather Ballantyne, Amanda Felten and Krystal Nelson, representing the senior class, requested approval for the Senior Release program, and this was approved by the Board. Students' participation in the program will depend on their academics and behavior, as outlined by the school Administration.

In other business, the Board voted to leave Driver Education fees the same as they were last year for the summer of 2010. Fees will be $230 for resident students, and $330 for non-resident students. The instructor's salary will be $150 per student.

The Board approved participating in the "Race to the Top" Grant, if the state of Iowa is

awarded this grant. The Board also approved changing the April professional development date to April 23, and it will be a joint workshop with the Alta District's staff.

The Board also reviewed the 100 & 400 series of Board Policies and approved a contract for Bradley Gustafson as Middle School Wrestling Coach.

It was also noted that no bids were received on the two advertised Fitness Center treadmills, and the Board decided to sell them for $100 apiece, "as is."

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 8,.
