Cherokee Washington High School's Debate Team braved the snowy weather and traveled to the Okoboji Invitational Tournament in December, and the team experienced success, with three students bringing home awards.

Cherokee's trophy winners are shown in the photo to the right. Maggie Lubeck (left) received fifth place in Lincoln Douglas Debate with a 3-1 record.; Jacob Lewis (center) also debated for the Lincoln Douglas team, and earned first place as the only debater with a 4-0 record; Nicole Springer (right) took fifth place in the Student Congress House B .

WHS Debate Team also traveled to the West Des Moines Dowling Debate Tournament in December. This two-day tournament included schools from multiple states, because the tournament is part of a national circut. Pictured below are John Bieber and Bailey Stoneking, who debated in Public Forum. This team made it all the way to the 'Octofinalist' round and received a Tournament of Champions bid. Coaches Jessie VanDeWalle and Angela Rupp are very proud of Beiber and Stoneking for excelling at such a difficult tournament.
