Central Bank announces Scholarship Extension

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Mark Wilson
Since 1992, the Dr. John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund has awarded a scholarship which provides money for college tuition over a four-year period to Cherokee Washington High School graduates, providing the recipient is a full-time student at an accredited college, vocational school or other post-high school institution.

The parameters of the Dr. John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund were outlined in the will of the late Lois M. Dewar. Selections for the scholarship are made by a scholarship committee, appointed by the Superintent of the Cherokee School District. The award is based on academic achievement and financial need. The student must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in his post-secondary studies to continue receiving the scholarship funds.

Chuck Wulfsen, President of Central Bank in Cherokee, is pleased to announce that the Dr. John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund has extended its scholarship award to Mark Wilson, son of Jeff and Michelle Wilson of Cherokee, for the 2009-2010 school year. Mark will receive $2,150, based on the current annual income of the trust administered by Central Bank. Mark is attending the University of Northern Iowa.

This latest distribution brings the total scholarship amount paid to date to $56,730.
