Morningside women qualify for Nationals

AMES - The Morningside Lady Mustangs' distance medley relay team finished sixth at the Iowa State Open indoor track and field meet in Ames. The Mustangs' time of 12:22.41 was 20 seconds under the NAIA standard qualifying time for the National Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Johnson City, Tennessee March 4-6.

Members of the relay team were Jessica Hudelson, Margo Stanforth, Heather Hoefs and Kara Nelson, a junior from Cherokee Washington High School. Also qualifying for the Nationals was Morningside senior Erin Keitges who finished second in the women's 5000 meter run in a time of 18:09.79, well below the NAIA qualifying standard of 18:28.60.

Kara Nelson had Morningside's top individual finish on Saturday's second day at Ames, finishing 7th in the Women's 1000 Meters, in a time of 3:02.89.
