Florence E. "Flossie" Timmins, 97, of Cherokee, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, in Country Side Estates, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee.A rosary was recited by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will also be held in the spring. Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com. Florence was born Sept. 30, 1912 in LeMars, to William and Blanche (Rice) Cowan. She attended school in LeMars, moved to Cherokee, graduating from Wilson High School in1930. She later attended one year of business school in Ames. On May 7, 1933 she married Harold Timmins in Ames. He preceded her in death in 1977. They moved to Cherokee where Florence was busy raising her family. Florence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Cherokee Garden Club, and the Cherokee Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and flower arranging, and entertaining. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three children (Robert Timmins, Mary Ann Timmins, David Timmins) seven brothers and one sister. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Nadolski, and Joseph Cohen, of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, Michael Nadolski, and his wife, Lauren, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Susan Nadolski, and her husband, Patrick Maxwell, of Riverside, Calif.; Stacy Wittrock, and her husband, Jerod, of Iowa City; Patrice Noble, and her husband, Lance, of Cedar Rapids; Ron Mortenson,of San Antonio, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Barb Timmins, of Cherokee.
