Shady Ladys are from the Iowa Lakes area, and consist of Becky Thoreson on vocals, accordian and flute, and Tammy Hamlin on vocals and guitar.
The duo spans the musical spectrum with a wide variety of cover tunes, in addition to a few original compositions.The feel-good Shady Ladys will have you tappin' your boots, and shaking your booty!

Rebecca "Becky" Thoreson is an accomplished singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and performer who has worked with Keith Carradine, Doc Watson, and Ricky Lee Jones, and has opened for such legendary performers as Leon Russell, and Edgar Winter. Her band, Chateau Flambeau, headlined the Carbondale Music Fair in Colorado for an unprecedented two years in a row. The band also appeared on the Austin Music Network and toured extensively across the Southwestern U.S.
Becky also performed with the iconic rock band Canned Heat during their Main Stage set at the 2008 Telluride Blues and Brews Festival.
In addition to her musical performances, Becky has appeared in two feature films, Christmas Vacation and Dumb & Dumber, and also appeared as an extra in the cult film Snapple. She is also an award-winning broadcaster and M.C.
Becky earned a BMA Degree in Music Composition (Cum Laude) from the University of Utah, and has also studied acting at the Van Mar Academy of Performing Arts in Hollywood.
Becky has recently returned to the Iowa Great Lakes Region, where she is recording original material and also appearing as part of the acoustic rock duo, Shady Ladys.
Tammy Hamlin is a 1979 graduate of Holstein High School, and has more than 25 years of experience performing as a solo artist and with various bands. As a singer/songwriter, she accompanies herself on an acoustic Martin Guitar. In the 1980s,Tammy performed as a member of the female band Mztree, entertaining throughout Eastern Iowa and Galena, Illinois. In 1988, Hamlin was featured on KUNI's Live from Studio One.
In 1989, Tammy relocated to Austin, Texas, where she performed in many Austin clubs and on public television.
She performed extensively across the United States during the 1990s, then moved to New Zealand in the year 2000, where she joined the rock band Czars of Groove. The band toured the Central North Island, until Tammy's return to the Iowa Great Lakes region in 2004.
Hamlin's numerous accomplishments include opening for rock icon Roger McGuinn (of the legendary band The Byrds) at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in 2009.
Tammy continues to perform solo as well as appear with Becky Thoreson in the Shady Ladys duo.
The duo's performance at the Gathering Place will be on Friday, February 19, beginning at 8 p.m.
