MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys erupted for a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, ballooned that to 35-12 at halftime, and won going away with a resounding 65-26 non-conference basketball win over Aurelia here Thursday night.
Neal Bunt and Tyler Prunty led a balanced Eagle offense with 12 points apiece. Nick Hirschman paced the Bulldogs with 13 points, and Austin Glawe added 10.
Glawe also led MMC on the boards with 10 rebounds, and Hirschman grabbed six. Colton Ballantyne had two steals for the Bulldogs.
"We played good, unselfish basketball all night long," said MMC coach Pat Bird. "I was very pleased with the way our upper classmen showed leadership on the court by playing together with our less experienced players. We had 10 players in the scoring column tonight. Coaches always love to see that."
MMC cashed in 8-17 free throws, and Aurelia made 7-13.
"We were not ready to play tonight and that was my fault as a coach," said Aurelia coach Grant Peckenschneider. "We should have been better ready to play and we were not. We did not focus very well on taking care of the ball and struggled with their speed and athleticism."
Aurelia plays at Whiting on Friday, while MMC travels to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
