HOLSTEIN - The Aurelia/Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland wrestlers qualified three grapplers to the Class 2A Districts in Cherokee Saturday.

The Stonecutters, hosting their own 2A Sectional in Holstein, featured champion Taylor Witzel at 160 pounds, champion Logan Schafer at 285, and runner-up Michael Davidson at 215.

Witzel, an AGHSC senior, has tallied a superb 40-5 record this season and leads the Stonecutters into Saturday's 2A District in Cherokee.

Schafer, an impressive sophomore for AGHSC is 37-9 this season; and Davidson, a promising freshman, sports an 18-10 record this season.

Two Stonecutters narrowly missed out on District berths after finishing third at Saturday's Sectionals here. They were junior Vance Kreutz at 112 pounds, who sports a 13-3 record; and Josh Schwanz, a senior with a sparkling 22-9 record this season at 152.

First and second-place finishers qualify for Districts, with third-place finishers serving as alternates in case of injury, etc. occurring to the champion and runner-up. The same holds true for Saturday's District competition where wrestlers qualify for the Iowa State Tournament in Des Moines scheduled for Feb. 17-20 in the Wells Fargo Arena.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton won the Sectional Team title here Saturday with 223.5 points and a whopping 10 District qualifiers.

The Warriors were followed by Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove with 211.5 and eight qualifiers, Rockwell City-Lytton/Southern Cal 181.5, Carroll 164.5, AGHSC 121, Sioux City Heelan 102.
