Coaching authorization and Endorsement Program offered in June

Friday, February 12, 2010

The Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union, in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau and Heartland Area Education Agency is offering the sixth annual coaching authorization and endorsement program June 14 -- 17, 2010 at Drake University.

The program provides the opportunity for 80 individuals to earn their coaching authorization or endorsement. Participants seeking a coaching authorization will have completed all required course work at the end of the 4-day clinic. Participants seeking a coaching endorsement will have additional course work to be completed by mid-July, 2010. The Athletic Union will pay for all coursework, books, supplies, and meals during the 4-day clinic. A $25 fee will be charged to each participant to cover administrative fees. One hundred percent attendance is required for all sessions.

The program also provides an opportunity to prepare new coaches in ways beyond the required core coursework. The curriculum includes training through Character Counts and Pursuing Victory with Honor. Not only will this program provide 80 new coaches annually, but those coaches will be better trained to deal with real-life issues from day one, which will hopefully keep these qualified individuals involved with our students, as educators, for many years to come and minimize annual turnover.

Those interested will be able to register on-line at the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union website (IGHSAU.org). The first 80 commitments received will close registration for this program in 2010. If you have questions about the clinic, please contact the IGHSAU at 515-288-9741 or Heartland AEA at 515-270-9030 ext. 4444.
