ALTA - The host Alta Cyclones went on a 15-5 scoring run in the fourth quarter to overcome a 39-34 deficit and defeat a quality and youthful Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn team 49-44 in Class 1A Regional basketball action here last week.
Erica Dreckman led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points, Kayla Foresman added 11, followed by Rachel McDermott nine, and Jena Mittlestadt eight.
Jordan Henningsen paced the victorious Cyclones with 18 points, and Emily Grieme tallied 16, and Courtney VanHaaften seven.
Mittlestadt and Jalyn Doeden led MMC on the boards with eight rebounds each, while Foresman grabbed seven, and McDermott and Stephanie Specht five apiece. Mittlestadt led her team in assists with four, and McDermott had fofur steals.
Grieme led Alta rebounders with a dozen, and Meagan Phipps snagged seven. Henningsen had eight assists and three steals to lead both those categories.
MMC sank 16-56 field goals for a frigid 29 percent, made 3-14 three-pointers, and 9-17 free throws. Alta netted 18-52 shots for 35 percent, including 3-14 threeballs, and 10-18 free throws.
Alta continues down tourney trail and MMC ends its season.
