WHITING - The Aurelia Bulldog boys, despite double-double nights from both of their big men, lost a non-conference basketball game to Whiting here on Friday, 49-43, in both teams' regular-season closer.
Aurelia coach Grant Peckenschneider said Bulldog senior Nick Hirschman "had a great game. He played his best game of the year, coming off a bad ankle sprain earlier in the week."
Hirschman scored 20 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Bulldogs, while freshman Austin Glawe scored 14 points and garnered a whopping total of 18 rebounds.
Aurelia finished the regular season with a 1-19 mark, the same record posted by their Whiting opponents, whose victory snapped a nearly two-season losing streak.
The Bulldogs will play undefeated, 6th-ranked Storm Lake St. Mary's (20-0) in first-round Class 1A tournament play Thursday night at 7 p.m. on the Panthers' home court.
