Pioneer Hi-Bred and Sand Seed Service recently announced a partnership to expand Pioneer soybean production capacity to help meet the growing demand for Pioneer® brand soybeans.

The Sand Seed Service soybean production location in Marcus will partner with the Pioneer soybean production location in Aurelia to condition, package and ship Pioneer soybeans.

"Strong performance is driving demand for Pioneer Y Series soybean varieties," said Judd O'Connor, Pioneer business director for Iowa and Missouri. "We are pleased to partner with a high quality, local seed production facility to expand Pioneer soybean production capacity to help meet that demand."

"Sand Seed Service is proud of our seed conditioning facilities and our people," said Stan Remington, general manager of Sand Seed Service. "We are confident that we can provide Pioneer with additional seed production capacity to help them meet their growing demand for Pioneer soybean seed."

Pioneer soybeans conditioned at the Sand Seed Service facility will meet the same high quality standards as soybeans processed at Pioneer soybean production facilities. Pioneer will manage the grower contracting and will oversee the conditioning, packaging and shipping processes.

"As an ISO 9001-2008 certified company, we feel very strongly about our ability to condition, package and ship Pioneer soybean seed, and maintain their high quality standards," said Paul Wilkens, quality systems manager for Sands.

Pioneer Y Series soybeans were introduced into the marketplace for the 2009 growing season. In addition to enhanced yield, these new Y Series varieties offer strong agronomic traits and protection against yield-robbing pests such as soybean cyst nematode (SCN), sudden death syndrome (SDS), Phytophthora root rot, white mold and iron chlorosis.

Pioneer operates nine seed production locations in Iowa, including soybean production locations in Aurelia, Hedrick and Renwick.

Sand Seed Service is a third generation, family owned and privately held company located in Marcus. Current family members in the business are Chuck Sand, Ed Sand, Kathy (Sand) Ogren and John Sand. The Sand company was founded in 1932, and is comprised of a state-of-the-art soybean seed conditioning facility, grain complex and agronomy center.
